    Proper Safety...Our Standard

    Ethylene application used to be unpredictable, dangerous, and cumbersome for commercial ripeners. Over 50 years ago, we engineered a safer way: generate ethylene on demand inside the ripening room instead of storing large volumes in pressurized cylinders.

    Some products can release enough ethylene to reach the lower explosive limit (LEL) in typical ripening rooms. With our system, when used in commercial rooms of 2,000 cubic feet / 57 cubic meters or larger and according to label directions, the concentration of ethylene stays well below explosive levels.

    Proper Registrations

    Through diligent, independent testing of both ingredients and emissions, Ethy-Gen® II has been formally registered as a ripening agent by multiple authorities. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved Ethy-Gen® II for use as a ripening agent for bananas, tomatoes, and other fruits under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), and it is also approved in the UK and various EU member states.

    Global food safety guidance increasingly prohibits unsafe carbide-based ripening agents while permitting controlled use of ethylene gas for commercial ripening. Ethy-Gen® II fits squarely within that allowed, regulated ethylene category.

    Proper Certifications

    Our ethylene generators are certified by TÜV SÜD, a global, accredited technical services provider that evaluates equipment against international safety standards. After rigorous product testing and ongoing inspections of our production facility, TÜV SÜD has confirmed that our generators are safe from foreseeable risks of fire, electrical shock, and related hazards when used as directed.

    The TÜV SÜD listing also documents that the ethylene concentration produced by our generators does not exceed 25 percent of the lower explosive limit (LEL). As a result, our products are exempt from requiring special electrical adaptations in compliant ripening rooms—see our Insights section for more detail on ethylene and fire code requirements.
